Katarina Witt first began to skate as early as age five. She was only five when her talents became apparent, and in Karl-Marx-Stadt she was accepted into a school specifically for kids with sporting talents. Her coach Jutta was also at the school. Witt was able to make her mark in 1982, after she finished second at the World Championships at Copenhagen. Her grace and elegance captured the attention of everyone at that time, and from then onwards she was dominating the game.
